Calabar Floods After Heavy Rainfall (VIDEO)

Heavy rainfall on Friday, October 20, 2023, wreaked havoc in the Calabar metropolis, causing flooding and leaving commuters stranded.

CONVERSEER gathered that the rain which started with heavy breeze at about 8pm flooded most parts of the Cross River State capital.

Vehicle owners had to abandon their vehicles, especially in flood-prone areas. Business owners were not left out as well.

Some of the affected areas are Marian by Calabar Municipal Council, Ediba Qua, Efio-Ette Junction, Mobil by MCC, Goldie by Target, Ekpo Abasi Junction by CRUTECH gate, Ibom Layout by Ndidem Palace, Parliamentary Junction, Ikot Eyo by Parliamentary, Ibok Street, and Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Bypass by Akai Efa. Some parts of Murtala Mohammed Highway, 8 Miles, Ikot Abasi Obori by Ikot Ishie, Etta Agbor, Yellow Duke, Atu, were also flooded.

A driver whose car was submerged in the flood at Marian by Calabar Municipal Council said: “The rain met me when I was rushing home, and when I got here, it became worse. The water entered inside my engine, everywhere and my car stopped. I had to come out and take shelter.”

A commercial driver whose Audi 80 got stuck in the middle of the road declined long comments. He only said, “I am tired, this keeps happening yet, the government doesn’t care”.

CONVERSEER gathered that these areas are known for flooding, following the shallowed and blocked drainages.
