Former UCTH CMD, Prof. Thomas Agan Dies at Ile Ife Teaching Hospital

Prof. Thomas Agan, former Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) is dead.

CONVERSEER learned that Prof. Agan died on Friday, October 20, 2023, afternoon.

According to The Beagle News, Agan died at Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife in Osun State, after a brief illness.

A family source said he fell ill while in Liberia, where he was doing his Sabbatical but insisted on being brought back to Nigeria for treatment.

Prof. Agan is the immediate past CMD of UCTH. He was succeeded by Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme, who is the current CMD.

Agan was part of the hospital at Moore Road before it was permanently moved to the University of Calabar (UNICAL) environment where he headed the hospital for a few years before his tenure elapsed in 2019.

Prof. Thomas Agan

Prof. Agan is an Obstetrics and Gynaecology who has practised medicine for about 32 years.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) and his residency at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

He served as the Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for eight years before his move to John F. Kennedy Medical Centre in November 2021.

Prof. Agan was nothing short of a blessing and a great addition to the JFK Family.

Prof. Thomas Agan hails from Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
