The Abia State Chapter of the Labour Party has reaffirmed its confidence in the Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, assuring constituents that the lawmaker remains focused, resolute, and committed to delivering effective representation despite recent developments involving his predecessor, former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Iroegbu Emenike, the Labour Party disclosed that it had undertaken extensive consultations and interactions with Hon. Ogah and was satisfied that he remains in high spirits and undeterred in the discharge of his legislative responsibilities.
The party assured the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, members of the Labour Party, and Abians generally that the federal lawmaker remains fully committed to lawmaking, constituency development, and the protection of the interests of those who freely entrusted him with the mandate in the 2023 general election.
According to the statement, Hon. Ogah cannot be intimidated, distracted, or discouraged from carrying out the responsibilities for which he was elected, urging constituents to remain calm and continue to support their representative.
The Labour Party emphasized that democracy thrives on the freely expressed will of the people, noting that the outcome of the 2023 general election reflected the electorate’s decision to embrace a new direction, with Hon. Ogah emerging victorious through what it described as a transparent democratic process.
The party also advised former Minister Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha to allow the serving lawmaker to concentrate on the mandate given to him by the people and to avoid actions capable of creating unnecessary political distractions.
While acknowledging that every citizen has the constitutional right to seek legal redress where necessary, the party maintained that legal processes should not be used as instruments of political intimidation or harassment against elected public officials.
It further stated that if Hon. Onyejeocha believes she still commands the support of the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, the appropriate avenue would be to seek a fresh mandate from the electorate during the next election.
The statement highlighted Hon. Ogah’s record in office, describing him as one of the most active first-term members of the House of Representatives. It cited his legislative interventions, sponsorship of motions, constituency projects, educational support programmes, scholarship initiatives, healthcare interventions, youth empowerment schemes, and regular engagement with constituents as evidence of purposeful representation.
According to the Labour Party, these achievements have earned the lawmaker recognition beyond the constituency and established him as one of the notable performing legislators in the current National Assembly.
The party expressed concern over what it described as attempts to distract or politically undermine the lawmaker, insisting that such actions do not serve the interests of the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.
It also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women organizations, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to continue supporting Hon. Ogah in his efforts to deliver people-oriented representation.
Reaffirming the party’s position, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, assured Hon. Ogah of the unwavering support of the State Working Committee and the entire Labour Party family in the state.
The Chairman commended the lawmaker’s performance in office and pledged the party’s continued support as he carries out his constitutional responsibilities on behalf of his constituents.
The Labour Party concluded by expressing confidence that Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah would continue to justify the confidence reposed in him by the electorate through quality representation and sustained development initiatives.
