The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of giving unequal attention to victims of insecurity across the country.
It urged the Federal Government to provide updates on the fate of 176 residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State who were abducted more than five months ago.
In a statement on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said the recent celebration of the rescue of abductees in Oyo State had raised concerns about the fate of other victims still being held captive in different parts of the country.
The ADC said the abducted residents of Woro community had remained in captivity since February 3, 2026, and questioned what efforts had been made to secure their release.
The party also cited recent security incidents across the country, including the abduction of at least 40 residents from 11 communities in Mayanchi District of Maru ocal government area of Zamfara State.
The ADC deplored the renewed attacks in Benue State, the kidnapping of a Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, and continued insurgent attacks in Borno State and other states in the North.
According to the party, these incidents demonstrate that insecurity remains a major challenge despite repeated assurances from the President that the situation would soon improve.
“The President must ensure that his actions do not create the impression that the value of a Nigerian life depends on where the victim comes from or whether the tragedy attracts national headlines,” the statement said.
The party noted that residents of Kaiama staged a peaceful protest on July 24 over the continued captivity of the abducted Woro residents, describing the demonstration as a reflection of growing frustration among families seeking answers from the government.
“Their protest was not political. It was the cry of citizens who fear that their loved ones have been forgotten,” the ADC stated.
It argued that Nigerians deserved regular information on ongoing rescue efforts and questioned the status of victims still being held across the country.
“Following the public celebration surrounding the rescue of abductees in Oyo State, Nigerians are entitled to ask a simple question: what is the status of those still being held elsewhere?” the party said.
The ADC called on the Federal Government to disclose progress made in securing the release of the Kaiama abductees, victims kidnapped in Zamfara, Justice Bunza and others affected by insecurity in Borno and other states.
The opposition party further criticised what it described as the administration’s reliance on public assurances without corresponding results.
Referring to President Tinubu’s recent pledge that insecurity in northern Nigeria would soon be brought under control, the ADC said repeated promises were no longer sufficient without visible outcomes.
“There comes a point when repeated assurances, unaccompanied by visible results, cease to reassure. They simply become another headline in a long cycle of official optimism and public disappointment,” the statement said.
The party added that the President was increasingly being viewed as “a professional statement-maker” on security matters and urged him to back official pronouncements with concrete action.
The ADC maintained that all victims of insecurity deserved equal attention and support from the government, regardless of their location, stressing that effective leadership should be measured by the protection of citizens and the rescue of those in captivity.
“The people abducted in Woro matter. The women and children abducted in Zamfara matter. The families living under siege in Borno matter. The victims of fresh attacks in Benue matter. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza matters,” the party said.
It urged the President to demonstrate through action that no Nigerian community had been abandoned in the fight against insecurity.
