ADC leaders take campaign to Ekiti, attack APC record ahead of governorship poll

Top leaders of the African Democratic Congress on Thursday intensified their push for victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress of failing to deliver meaningful progress to residents despite being in power for more than three years.

Leading the charge at a mega campaign rally in Ado Ekiti were the ADC National Chairman, David Mark, and the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, who urged voters to back the party’s governorship candidate, Dare Bejide, as a credible alternative to the incumbent administration.

Addressing party faithful and supporters, Mark appealed to residents to seize the opportunity presented by the election and support the ADC candidate at the ballot box.

“Vote for our candidate, Bejide, so that the Ekiti of your dream can be built. Give your votes to ADC,” he said.

The former Senate President maintained that the party offered the best chance of reversing the challenges confronting the state and improving the welfare of the people.

According to him, “This party with its candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide, remains the only group capable of salvaging Ekiti from the claws of poverty.”

Also speaking at the rally, Aregbesola launched a strong critique of the APC, arguing that the ruling party’s performance at various levels of government had fallen short of public expectations.

The former Osun governor dismissed suggestions that the ADC lacked the political strength to challenge the incumbent administration, insisting that the outcome of Saturday’s election would reveal the true mood of the electorate.

“We will meet at the poll. The APC has failed at the three tiers of government. APC may want to underestimate the opposition because of appearances, but such assumptions will prove costly.”

Aregbesola expressed confidence that the ADC would emerge victorious if the election was conducted transparently, contending that the ruling party could only retain power through manipulation of the process.

He said, “I’m very happy that you are doing it here. If it’s more than this, it will become a problem. They say a needle is very small, but no hen can try to swallow it.”

The ADC chieftain also paid tribute to women for their critical role in electoral participation and grassroots mobilisation, urging them to turn out in large numbers on election day and ensure that every vote cast counted.

The rally formed part of the party’s final push before voters head to the polls to choose the next governor of Ekiti State, with the ADC presenting the contest as an opportunity for residents to chart a new political direction for the state.
