All activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across Osun State have been suspended by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who also directed security agencies to arrest anyone operating in the name of the union.
The directive was issued on Thursday following a meeting of the Osun State Security Council, as part of efforts by the state government to restore order in motor parks and halt the collection of levies by the union.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who said the ban takes immediate effect across the state.
According to the statement, the governor instructed the police and other security agencies to ensure full enforcement of the order and prevent anyone from carrying out union activities in motor parks.
“The Governor has directed the Police and other security agencies to put a stop to all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) forthwith in all our motor parks across the state. This order is to put a stop to the collection of all levies in our parks,” the statement said.
Adeleke clarified that the directive does not include the closure of motor parks but is aimed solely at preventing the union from operating pending further notice.
“I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I’m not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for disturbance of public peace,” the governor stated.
The state government said the measure is intended to restore sanity in motor parks and maintain public order while warning that anyone who violates the directive would face arrest and possible prosecution.
