Burkina Faso’s Transitional President, Ibrahim Traoré, has called on citizens to embrace sovereignty and self-affirmation, reaffirming his commitment to the Confederation of Sahel States (AES).

Speaking at the Koulouba Palace during a ceremony marking the raising of the national flag and the AES banner, Traoré expressed confidence in the AES’s bright future, emphasizing the importance of consolidating past achievements and continuing collaborative efforts on common challenges.

Similarly, Niger’s Head of State, Abdourahamane Tiani, displayed the AES badge on his uniform during an official ceremony on March 3 in Niamey, symbolizing the growing integration of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso,

The flag-raising ceremony highlights the formalization of the three countries’ withdrawal from ECOWAS on January 29.

The Sahelian trio, all under military leadership, is now accelerating the operationalization of their confederation.
