Air Peace Chairman Accepts NCAA Sanctions Over Consumer Protection Violations

Lagos, Nigeria – The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has openly accepted the sanctions imposed on his airline by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for breaches of consumer protection regulations.

This development follows enforcement actions initiated by the NCAA against five airlines, including Air Peace, for violating provisions outlined in Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

The enforcement actions were disclosed on Tuesday by Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, via a post on his official X account.

Onyema Acknowledges Infractions

Providing an update, acting NCAA Director-General Chris Najomo shared on Friday that Onyema admitted his staff were at fault for the alleged violations.

“Today, the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, publicly accepted the enforcement actions, stating that he had witnessed some infractions by his staff. He has since cautioned them to ensure refunds are paid within the stipulated timeframe in line with NCAA Regulations 2023,” Najomo stated.

Onyema, in his remarks, commended the NCAA for its proactive stance, adding, “I will always acknowledge it where the fault is ours. This shows that the NCAA knows what they are doing.”

Ethiopian Airlines and NCAA Compliance

Najomo also noted that Ethiopian Airlines, which was similarly sanctioned, expressed its readiness to comply with NCAA regulations and pledged to submit a compliance report promptly.

Renewed Commitment to Consumer Protection

The NCAA’s actions mark the first significant enforcement of consumer protection regulations in over a decade. Najomo reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of both passengers and airlines, stating, “It will no longer be business as usual.”

He commended Onyema for his willingness to comply and assured the public of continued efforts to uphold passenger rights. This move signals a renewed drive by the NCAA to enforce accountability and enhance consumer satisfaction in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
