Albanian Church Announces Five-Day Mourning Period in Honor of Late Archbishop

The Holy Synod of the Albanian Orthodox Church has declared a 5-day mourning period following the repose of its long-time primate.

“>January 25, at the age of 95.

Holding an extraordinary session that same day, the Holy Synod declared an ecclesiastical mourning period from January 25 to 29, the Albanian Church reports.

The Synod also announced that Abp. Anastasios’ body will be received in front of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana on Tuesday, January 28 at 4:00 PM, after which he will be placed for public veneration inside the cathedral throughout the night until the next day.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 30 at 11:00 AM, following the Divine Liturgy.

In the meantime, the body of the Archbishop, who reposed in a hospital in Athens, is in the Metropolitan Cathedral in the Greek capital, where large crowds have come to bid farewell.
