Allegation of power tussle, welfare neglect in 90 battalion false – Army

By Our Reporter

PORT HARCOURT (CONVERSEER) – The 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has dismissed as false and malicious recent online allegations claiming that 90 Battalion, Koko, is engulfed in internal power struggles, welfare neglect and financial exploitation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the publication circulating on social media was a desperate attempt to blackmail the battalion’s command structure.

He described the allegations as unsubstantiated, adding that postings and deployments in the Nigerian Army were routine administrative processes devoid of religious, ethnic or loyalty-based considerations.

“The misgiving that the Battalion posts soldiers based on such considerations is not only unfounded but malicious and should be seen as a desperate attempt at institutional and command blackmail,” he said.

Danjuma stressed that the Nigerian Army remains a professional force with zero tolerance for corruption, welfare abuse, religious bias or any form of malfeasance within its ranks.

He added that the Commanding Officer of 90 Battalion had been discharging his duties most professionally within available resources.

According to him, the Army has established procedures for handling administrative complaints, which apply at all levels, including battalions.

“Personnel who resort to any other channel outside established procedures may be deemed to be engaging in institutional blackmail and should be disregarded.

“However, where there are noticeable infractions, the Army will investigate them appropriately, including those bordering on extortion,” he said.

Danjuma urged the public to ignore the circulating allegations, assuring that the Division would continue to protect lives and property in the Niger Delta region.

He reiterated the commitment of the 6 Division to sustaining security and maintaining professionalism in all operational engagements.
