Barely 20 days after a Governor’s convoy knocked and killed a security personnel in Calabar, Cross River State, another convoy belonging to one of the politicians have allegedly knocked and killed a man in Bekwarra Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, Converseer learned, happened on Thursday night in Nyanya Ulim, Bekwarra.
According to sources, the victim, Afia Dominion Ogar, a mentally challenged man, was knocked down by one of the vehicles in the convoy yet to be identified.
“It happened opposite my house. He died instantly and nobody cared to stop,” an eyewitness, Oga Monday stated.
Another source, Ochonu Mark, said multiple convoys plied the road on the same day and it’s difficult to identify which one killed the man.
“As of this moment, the exact politician whose convoy was responsible for the incident has not yet been identified. There were multiple convoys passing through that axis around the same time, making it difficult to clearly determine which one was involved.
“The deceased, identified as Afia Dominion Ogar from Nyanya Ulim in Bekwarra LGA, was a mentally unstable person in the community. He often stands by the roadside, where he displays what many described as karate-like/traffic control movements and behaviours.
“Given the number of convoys that passed through yesterday, identifying the exact vehicle involved may remain challenging unless the responsible party comes forward.
“This remains a deeply unfortunate situation, the body has been deposited in the mortuary.
“Please the politician involved in this, knows himself or herself and I think it will be proper to show some respect by locating the deceased’s family and pay a condolence visit, except it was a deliberate hit and run case,” Ochonu stated.
At the time of filing this report, no one has taken responsibility for the matter.
