Another PDP Chieftain defects to APC in Cross River amidst turmoil

Another chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Emmanuel Irom has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River State.

Irom, a prominent member of the PDP resigned his membership from the party on Monday, 12 February 2024.

His decision, CONVERSEER gathered, came in after a brief meeting with the party officials in his ward, Apiapum Ward in Obubra Local Government Area from the Central part of the State.

Irom who thanked the PDP for giving him a platform to push his political aspiration, said the reason for his resignation is to join the APC in order to bring to his people the dividends of democracy.

“I write to inform your good office of my decision to resign my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from today being the 12th of February 2024.

“I thank you and the leadership of the party for the support and platform you all gave me to push forward my aspirations, and also the friendship we all enjoyed.

“The reason for my resignation is to enable me join the progressives to bring to our people the dividends of democracy.

“I greatly regret any inconvenience my action may cause you,” Irom said in a resignation letter acknowledged by Nsiyan Moses Ebingha, Apiapum Ward Chairman on Tuesday,13 February 2024, and sighted by CONVERSEER on Wednesday, 14 February 2024.

CONVERSEER reports that Irom’s resignation from the PDP has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with many speculating on the implications for both the political party and the broader political society.

Recall that a chieftain of the PDP, Dominic Edet Henshaw, who joined the party since 1999 resigned from the party from the Southern part of the State on 6 February 2024.
