Badejo-Okusanya extends lead in NBA presidential election

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN),
Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has extended her lead in the race to become the next President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Latest results released as of 6:00pm showed she has secured 9,930 votes, representing 45.82 percent of the 21,665 total votes counted so far.

She is trailed by by Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN) who has secured 6,708 votes (30.99 percent) and Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN), who has 5,021 votes (23.21 per cent).

The Electoral Committee (ECNBA) had announced that 82,164 registered voters were eligible to participate in the election, which suffered initial hiccups over alleged “coordinated and sustained” cyberattacks.

According to the ECNBA, the election was slated to commence at 12:00am WAT on Saturday, July 18, but was delayed following the cyberattacks on the electronic voting (e-voting) platform.

The committee emphasised that the targeted attack was aimed at disrupting, sabotaging and undermining the election.

The ECNBA said its cybersecurity team and Election Voting Service Provider (EVSP) immediately activated emergency security protocols to contain the threat and restore full functionality of the system, assuring members that no votes were accepted during the disruption and voting only commenced after the platform had been secured.
