Residents of Shuni and surrounding communities in Sokoto State were thrown into panic after armed bandits reportedly attacked Dalijan, a community located about two kilometres from Shuni and less than seven kilometres from the Headquarters of the 8 Division Nigerian Army.

The incident, which quickly gained attention on social media due to its proximity to the military formation, heightened fears among residents and raised fresh concerns over insecurity in the area.

In response, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, immediately visited the affected area to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and oversee security operations.

Military sources said the GOC’s visit was aimed at evaluating the security situation, coordinating troop deployments and ensuring that adequate measures were put in place to prevent further attacks.

“The situation is under control. The GOC was on-site to ensure the necessary security arrangements are in place and to reassure the public of their safety,” a military source said.

The Army said troops have intensified patrols and surveillance across the Shuni-Dalijan axis to forestall any further incursion by criminal elements and maintain security in the affected communities.

Residents were urged to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic, while continuing to provide security agencies with credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-banditry operations.
