Cross River state government has intervened in the impeachment saga of the Chairman of Bekwara Local Government Area (LGA), Theresa Ushie, saying the status quo before the impeachment should remain.
Accidentally, the State’s Acting Governor, Rt. Hon Peter Odey has summoned a special meeting of all parties concerned and stakeholders in Calabar to address the matter.
A statement dated March 20, by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, reads: “I have the directives of His Excellency, the Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, PhD to invite the following stakeholders to a very crucial meeting on recent developments in Bekwarra Local Government Area”
The statement said the meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025 at 10am prompt in the Glass House, Governor’s Office, Calabar and the stakeholders invited to attend the meeting are:
“The State Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), the State Secretary, APC; Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government Affairs; Senior Special Adviser to the Governor- Political Affairs; Executive Chairman of Bekwarra LGA; and all serving Ward Councilors of Bekwarra LGA.
“Please, all concerned are to note that attendance at this meeting is mandatory. Meanwhile, His Excellency, the Acting Governor has directed that the statuquo before the current crisis should remain”.
Recall that the Bekwara councilors had on March 20, through their Leader, Thompson Imah, said the Chairman was unanimously impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office alleging that her leadership has stifled development and undermined the “People’s First” mantra of Governor Bassey Otu.
