Black People’s March Organisers To Hold Press Conference

by Frank Ulom
1 November 2023
in News
  • What: Press conference
  • When: November 3, 2023, 12:00 pm ET
  • Where: Sankofa Books & Cafe, 2714 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, DC
  • Contact: Vice Chair Lisa Davis 973.517.1405, info@blackisbackcoalition.org

On November 3, organisers of the Black People’s March on the White House will talk with the press about their November 4th mobilisation, the 15th annual March sponsored by the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations (BIBC).

The March’s original theme “Not One Step Backwards! Black Liberation Movement Under FBI Attack…again. Drop the Charges, Now!”, stems from the July 29, 2022, military attacks on the U.S. front of the African liberation movement in St. Petersburg, Florida and St. Louis, Missouri and subsequent baseless federal indictments of three leaders of the Uhuru Movement.

The primary target of the DOJ attacks is 82-year-old Chairman Omali Yeshitela, lifelong leader of the African liberation struggle and survivor of the U.S. counterinsurgency programme that decimated the Black Power Movement of the 1960s with assassinations, jailings and physical destruction of community-based programmes.

In light of the rapidly escalating genocidal war being waged by Israel on the Palestinian people, this year’s Black People’s March on the White House will declare that “the African, Indigenous, Mexican, Filipino, Cuban, Venezuelan and other oppressed peoples of the world stand together with Palestine in a united front against colonialism, our common enemy.”

“Our unity with Palestine goes beyond well-wishing. We recognise that their struggle and ours are interwoven in our shared global anti-colonial project to overturn the parasitic, bloodsucking colonial mode of production, built on the stolen labour and lives of enslaved Africans and the stolen land and genocide committed against the Indigenous people.”

Led by the BIBC, this year’s Black People’s March on the White House is co-sponsored by the Hands Off Uhuru! Hands Off Africa! Fightback Coalition composed of over 40 diverse organisations committed to building an anti-colonial free speech movement.

Return of Palestinian land, freedom for U.S.-held political prisoners, an end to political repression by the U.S. government and that billions in U.S. funding of war in Ukraine be used instead to pay reparations to black people.

The press conference will take place on Friday, November 3rd at 12:00 pm ET at Sankofa Books & Cafe, 2714 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, DC and will feature:

  • Chairman Omali Yeshitela, one of the Uhuru 3, indicted on baseless federal charges of being a Russian agent for his 50+ years of fighting for reparations and black liberation
  • Marsha Adebayo, leader of the Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition
  • Zaki Baruti, President General of the Universal African People’s Organisation
  • Yejide Orunmila, President of the African National Women’s Organisation
  • Ajamu Baraka, International Organiser of the Black Alliance for Peace
  • Efia Nwangaza, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement leader and former Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee organiser
