A fire outbreak in the courtyard of the Malian Textile Development Company (CMDT) has destroyed over 1,000 bales of cotton fibre, causing an estimated loss of approximately 250 million CFA francs
The fire broke out at midnight, swiftly consuming the cotton stockpile. A delegation, led by the Minister of Agriculture, visited the site to assess the damage.
Following the visit, several recommendations were made, including the reconstruction of the perimeter wall to meet current safety standards, alongside other precautionary measures aimed at strengthening site security and preventing future incidents.
Authorities confirmed that the destroyed bales were fully insured, which will enable CMDT to recover the financial losses sustained.
