The gunmen had stormed some of the communities around 04:15pm on Thursday.

Suspected armed herders have launched a fresh attack on communities in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and are currently shooting, causing panic and forcing residents to flee their homes, SaharaReporters has learnt.

This is coming a few hours after SaharaReporters reported the invasion of the communities by herdsmen armed with AK-47 rifles.

The gunmen had stormed some of the communities around 04:15pm on Thursday.

“As we are talking, they have blocked the road and started killing people. It’s confirmed. Please Nigerians should help us, we need deployment of security operatives,” a resident told SaharaReporters.

The insecurity situation in Benue has been alarming in recent weeks with attacks from gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

Attempts to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Anene Sewuese Catherine were unsuccessful, as her phone lines did not connect at the time of filing this report.
