Breaking: Atiku Launches Opposition Alliance to Contest Tinubu in 2027

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced the formation of a Coalition of Opposition Political Parties, with the stated goal of challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Abubakar confirmed the coalition’s formation while addressing a question on behalf of opposition leaders at a press conference held at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Thursday. “Yes, this is the birth of the coalition of opposition ahead of 2027,” he declared.

Further details regarding the coalition’s structure, objectives, and membership are expected to be released shortly.

The announcement signals the first major step by Nigeria’s opposition leaders toward a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), four years ahead of the next election cycle. While details of the coalition’s structure and membership remain unclear, political analysts say it marks a strategic effort to consolidate opposition forces in response to mounting economic and governance concerns under Tinubu’s administration.

Atiku, a veteran politician and serial presidential contender, has long been a vocal critic of the current government, citing issues such as economic hardship, inflation, and alleged electoral irregularities.

His call for unity among opposition parties is seen as an attempt to address longstanding fragmentation within Nigeria’s political opposition, which many believe contributed to the APC’s victory in 2023.
