The protestors, who had gathered near the Transcorp Hilton in Maitama after being blocked from the Eagle Square and Federal Secretariat, were met with force by armed police officers deployed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The Nigerian police have arrested a popular social media influencer in Abuja known as Flag Boy along with three other protesters during a demonstration calling for the repeal of the Cybercrime Act of 2024 on Monday.

The protestors, who had gathered near the Transcorp Hilton in Maitama after being blocked from the Eagle Square and Federal Secretariat, were met with force by armed police officers deployed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Upon arrival, the police fired teargas canisters at the protesters, triggering chaos in the area as several individuals sought refuge inside the Transcorp Hilton, including former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore.

Flag Boy, who was holding the national flag, was singled out by the police, assaulted, and subsequently taken away in a police van, along with two other demonstrators.

At the time of filing this report, the police had cordoned off all major routes leading to the Presidential Villa and Eagle Square in the nation’s capital.
