Suspected terrorists have abducted six Almajiri pupils during an attack on Unguwar Gere in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to local sources, the terrorists invaded the community at about 6:30pm on Wednesday and intercepted the pupils as they were returning from a nearby farm.

The children were reportedly close to entering the village when they were seized by the attackers.

Residents from neighbouring communities, assisted by soldiers stationed at the Supa Camp in Kuyallo, mobilised and engaged the attackers in an effort to rescue the victims.

The joint response reportedly forced the terrorists to retreat.

However, despite being repelled, the attackers escaped with the six abducted Almajiri pupils.

SaharaReporters learnt that the six abducted Almajiri pupils had been identified as Abdul Mali Malam, Al Amin Biyar, Abdurrahman Sama Ila, Jamilu Malam, Usumanu Bilya and Abdul Ganiyu Samaila.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while efforts to rescue the abducted children were said to be ongoing.

Days ago, SaharaReporters reported that bandits who were believed to be ‘repentant’ on Monday morning killed an unspecified number of farmers and abducting nearly 20 others in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A source in Birnin Gwari, who confirmed the attack in a message sent to SaharaReporters, said the incident occurred at about 11am in Layin Danauta village.

According to the source, the bandits stormed farmlands located north of the village and opened fire on farmers in what was described as a guerrilla-style attack.

The source said seven women and about 15 men were abducted during the attack, although the figures remained preliminary.

Several farmers were also injured, while local residents and volunteers continued search-and-recovery efforts late into the night.
