Suspected terrorists on Wednesday evening invaded the Ijalu area of Egbe in the Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting a woman and her toddler during a raid that has thrown residents into panic.

The victims were identified as Mrs. Idowu Kemi Titilayo and her young child, who were reportedly taken away by the armed assailants during the attack along the Solid Rock School axis of the community.

Community sources told SaharaReporters that the terrorists stormed the area at about dusk, firing sporadically and causing residents to flee for safety.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the attackers operated for several minutes without resistance before whisking away the victims.

“The terrorists came suddenly and everybody started running. They were heavily armed and people could not confront them. They abducted Mrs. Kemi and her little child and disappeared into the surrounding area before help could come,” the source said.

The community source expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the area, noting that residents now live in constant fear of attacks.

“This incident has created serious tension in the community. People are afraid because these attacks are becoming too frequent. We are appealing to security agencies to act quickly and rescue the woman and her child,” the source said.

In a related development in Nigeria’s North-Central region, SaharaReporters previously reported that five worshippers abducted by terrorists during an attack on the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo, Oro Ago District of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, had reportedly died in captivity.

Among those feared dead was the wife of the church minister, Pastor Omole.

Sources familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that information emerging from the terrorists’ hideout suggests that at least five of the abductees lost their lives after spending several weeks in captivity.

The tragic revelation was reportedly made by one of the victims who escaped from the kidnappers’ den and later recounted the ordeal.
