Burkina Faso exceeds target for patriotic support fund with Over 496 billion CFA Francs

OUAGADOUGOU (CONVERSEER) – Burkinabe citizens have contributed 496.966 billion CFA francs to the Patriotic Support Fund (PSF) by the end of 2025, surpassing the initial cumulative target of 450 billion CFA francs and achieving a 110.44 percent realisation rate.

The announcement was made during a press briefing in Ouagadougou, where authorities praised what they described as an exceptional national and diaspora mobilisation in support of security forces.

According to the chairman of the fund’s management committee, Vieux Abdoul Rachid Soulama, the contributions have significantly enhanced the operational capacity of the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP) engaged in counterterrorism efforts.

Yearly figures show a steady rise in contributions: 99.039 billion CFA francs raised in 2023 against a 100 billion target; 175.685 billion in 2024 compared to a 150 billion goal; and 222.242 billion in 2025, exceeding the 150 billion objective. Authorities stated that funds have supported the procurement of uniforms, equipment, food supplies, medical care, allowances, and compensation for VDP members and their beneficiaries.

The PSF also financed infrastructure and defense projects, including equipment for the Faso Mêbo Presidential Initiative, rehabilitation of the Kaya–Barsalogo road, and the acquisition of three combat helicopters and aircraft engines, according to Economy and Finance Minister Aboubakar Nacanabo.

For 2026, the government aims to mobilise at least 200 billion CFA francs, with 15 billion already recorded as of mid-February.
