Burkinabe Government Warns Against Social Media Content Promoting Terrorism

The Government of Burkina Faso has issued a strong warning to the public against the publication and dissemination of social media content that promotes or glorifies terrorism, calling such actions a direct threat to national security.

In a communiqué released earlier this week, Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana stressed that individuals found sharing or endorsing content that supports terrorist ideologies could face legal consequences.

He emphasized the government’s resolve to combat the spread of extremist narratives online, which have been linked to the radicalization of youth and the undermining of national stability.

The Ministry of Security announced that it is enhancing its digital surveillance and cyber-monitoring efforts to identify and curb the circulation of such harmful content across social media platforms.

Burkina Faso, which has faced a surge in jihadist attacks in recent years, continues to battle insurgent groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.

The government has repeatedly stressed the importance of public cooperation in the fight against terrorism, including vigilance in online spaces.

Authorities are urging citizens to report suspicious online activity and avoid engaging with or spreading content that could serve extremist agendas.
