Eno Utum Inah Obudu Cargo Airport 3 Cargo Airport: Committee applauds Otu over project continuity
  • …says quality of job satisfactory

By Daniel Bebia

The Cross River State House of Assembly Committee on Commerce, Industry, Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Privatisation has commended the State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu for the foresight to continue with some projects initiated by the previous administration.

Giving the commendation, while on oversight function to the Obudu International Passenger/Cargo Airport the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Commerce, Industry BPPP and Privatisation and Member Obubra I State Constituency, Hon. Ovat Agbor, described the emergence of Otu as Governor with a divine mandate to salvage the state from the age-long infrastructural decay.

“I want to use this opportunity to, first of all, commend the Governor His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu for his focus, people-oriented policies and continuity of programmes and projects initiated by the previous administrations. His emergence is indeed a prayer answered to salvage the infrastructure decay and restore Cross River to its pride of place in the comity of Nigerian states. This is what has been lacking in our nation’s polity.”

Hon. Agbor said the essence of the visit was to assess the level and quality of job in line with global best practices, adding that it will also put contractors on their toes to justify 5money collected from the state.

He noted that the Assembly was determined to work with the Governor in the actualisation of his administration’s blueprint, which according to him, will make the state an envy of many.

On the quality of job, the legislator maintained that having gone through the design and what he had seen on ground, the company deserved some applause.

Also speaking, the Member representing Yala I State Constituency, Hon. Martins Achadu, expressed concerns over the company’s non-engagement of local content at the managerial level.

“It is concerning to know that no local content at the managerial level. Our people have the wherewithal, the capacity, pedigree and character to deliver,” adding that Cross River indigenes have all it takes to occupy higher positions in the company, and should be considered.

He stated that it is pivotal to see Cross Riverian taking some key positions and the Assembly will stop at nothing to ensure its implementation.

Further, the Lawmaker said he was satisfied with the quality of job being that the materials are locally sourced within the state which according to him are of high and superior standards.

Hon. Achadu also charged CIBA Company Limited to improve on its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the host community so as to discourage encroachment and give the people a sense of belonging.

He enjoined Cross Riverians to keep faith with the Governor Otu-led administration to transform the State, hinting that the ongoing development within a few months of the government is only but a mirror of what will happen in the years to come.
