Carnival Calabar: Ayade discontinues Bikers’ Parade

by Frank Ulom

in Politics, Tourism

Following the fatal accident that claimed no fewer than 8 lives, including that of a pregnant woman in Calabar, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has discontinued the Bikers’ Parade, part of the Carnival Calabar show.

Expressing grief over the incident that happened on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, Ayade directed the immediate discontinuation of the Bikers’ Parade in honour of the victims of the accident.

This was contained in a statement signed by Christian Ita, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor on Tuesday.

The statement said the Governor is devasted by the incident and has directed security agencies to apprehend the motorist who is on the run.

While sympathising with the victims of the accident and their families, the governor, according to the statement, ordered an immediate investigation to unravel how the motorist was able to get through security barricades to have access to the routes which were closed to the public.

Governor Ayade while promising to ensure the culprit is arrested and brought to book,  however, sued for calm.

Recall that an errant motorist with number plate “DUK 505 PE” rammed into a crowd of spectators watching the event at Mary Slessor by Bogobiri which affected over 30 people.
