Chad and Libya Strengthen Aviation and Border Cooperation

Chad and Libya have enhanced their bilateral relations, in the areas of aviation, trade, and border security. This follows a meeting held in N’Djamena on Tuesday between Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno and a Libyan delegation led by Minister of Transport, Mohamed Salem Elshahubi.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed the reopening of direct air links between the two countries, which have been suspended for more than a decade.

They also addressed plans to revitalize cross-border trade through the establishment of new commercial corridors and explored ways to strengthen joint efforts in securing their shared borders, which have been vulnerable to trafficking and infiltration.

President Mahamat Déby Itno welcomed the Libyan initiative, expressing full support for the swift implementation of the discussed projects.

He emphasized the importance of a renewed partnership grounded in trust, regional stability, and mutual strategic interests.

The meeting highlighted a shared desire to reinforce the historic ties between N’Djamena and Tripoli by laying the foundation for a closer and more sustainable collaboration.
