The Chadian government has received a $44.9 million grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fund the asphalting of the Kyabé-Mayo section of the Kyabé-Singako road, a crucial infrastructure project aimed at boosting economic development.
The grant agreement was signed on February 19, 2025, in N’Djamena by Chad’s Minister of State for Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation, Tahir Hamid Nguilin, who also serves as Chad’s Governor at the AfDB, alongside the Bank’s acting representative in Chad, Claude N’Kodia. The signing ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Minister of Infrastructure Amir Idriss Kourda and Secretary of State for Finance Ali Djadda Kampard.
The 49.5-kilometer road project includes the construction of a 55-meter bridge and is part of Chad’s broader strategy to develop large-scale infrastructure that supports national growth. The upgraded road is expected to enhance connectivity between the southern and eastern regions of Chad, improving transportation of goods and people while strengthening the resilience of local communities, particularly women and youth.
Once completed, the all-season road will facilitate trade by linking the agricultural and agro-pastoral zones of Moyen Chari and Salamat with major urban centers such as Sarh, Moundou, N’Djamena, and Abéché. Additionally, it will improve Chad’s regional integration by providing an important trade route to neighboring Sudan.
This investment marks a significant step in Chad’s efforts to enhance infrastructure, reduce regional disparities, and promote economic stability.
