Chaos at National Assembly as police disperse pro-Natasha protesters with tear gas

There was chaos early Wednesday at the National Assembly, Abuja, after operatives of the Nigeria Police Force clashed with supporters of the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, using teargas to disperse the crowd from accessing the complex.

Supporters of the embattled Kogi senator had converged at the gate of the NASS Complex as early as 8 am to drum up support for her ahead of resumption of plenary and the scheduled hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition on her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The protesters were said to have tried to force their way into the Complex but were dispersed by police officers with tear gas to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Recall that Akpoti-Uduaghan had a bitter confrontation with Akpabio on the floor of the Senate over seating arrangements on February 20 with the matter thereafter referred to the Senate’s ethics committee.

However, last Friday, the lawmaker caused a stir when she revealed in an interview that Akpabio had been picking on her because she refused to assent to his request to have a sexual relationship with him.
