Charly Boy gives tips on lasting marriage after 48 years with one wife

Excentric Nigerian entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has offered tips on how to keep a marriage going for a long time.

Charly boy who reflected on his 48-year marriage, said spending decades with the same partner can become “boring”.

Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM, the musician compared his long marriage to eating the same meal repeatedly over many years.

“I’ve been married to one woman for 48 years. It is very boring. Imagine eating the same egusi for years, it’s boring now,”

Despite the humorous remark, Charly Boy explained that the success of a long-lasting marriage lies in constant management, understanding, and the ability to resolve disagreements.

According to him, he and his wife still quarrel regularly after nearly five decades together, but they always find a way to settle their differences.

The entertainer said arguments should not be seen as a sign of failure in a relationship, noting that conflicts are common in most marriages.

“All marriages are management, including my own. Me and my wife be like Tom and Jerry. We dey quarrel every day and we will continue to dey quarrel and settle am.

“No day we no dey quarrel. No day we no dey settle the quarrel. We go dey fix the quarrel dey go, Because, oyinbo people talk say the devil, you know is better than the angel, you don’t know,” he said.

Reflecting on the longevity of their union, he suggested that accepting a partner’s imperfections is one of the keys to sustaining a marriage for many years.
