Chelsea beat 10-man Barcelona in dominant Champions League victory

By Frank Ulom

LONDON (CONVERSEER) – Chelsea delivered a commanding performance at Stamford Bridge as Enzo Maresca’s impressive run continued with a comprehensive 3–0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Premier League side were in complete control under the lights in London, producing one of their most assured European displays in recent years.

Chelsea’s intensity and sharpness unsettled the Spanish champions from the outset. The hosts pressed aggressively and moved the ball with speed, repeatedly forcing Barcelona backwards. Enzo Fernández twice found the net inside the first 25 minutes, only for both goals to be ruled out for offside. Despite the setbacks, the Blues maintained their dominance.

Barcelona created a rare chance during an early counterattack when Lamine Yamal threaded a precise pass to Ferran Torres. The forward broke through the line but dragged his effort narrowly wide of Robert Sánchez’s post, missing a vital opportunity to shift the momentum.

Chelsea soon punished that wastefulness. In the 34th minute, Marc Cucurella, outstanding throughout the match, timed his run perfectly to beat Barcelona’s high line before cutting a low cross into the six-yard box. A scramble followed, with Pedro Neto attempting a clever backheel, before the ball ricocheted off Jules Koundé and into the net, giving Chelsea a deserved breakthrough.

Barcelona’s situation worsened before the interval. Captain Ronald Araújo collected a needless yellow card for dissent and moments later launched into a reckless challenge on Cucurella. The referee showed him a second booking, leaving the visitors a man down and facing an uphill battle.

Chelsea controlled the second half with composure and patience, finding further success through moments of sheer quality. The highlight came from emerging star Estevão, who slalomed past two defenders before unleashing a powerful strike into the roof of the net with his weaker foot. The finish underlined his growing reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

Liam Delap completed the scoring late on, slotting home low from Fernández’s precise pass to mark his first goal at Stamford Bridge. The strike sealed a victory that could have been far heavier, with Chelsea threatening to score six or seven as Barcelona struggled to cope with Maresca’s organised and energetic side.

The win strengthens Chelsea’s position in their Champions League group and offers a further glimpse of the attractive, effective football developing under Maresca’s leadership.
