In a bold step towards communal development, youths of Ekpene Obo village in Esit Eket Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday commenced the fixing of all potholes on the Ekpene Obo stretch of the James Town road.
The communal effort code named, “Operation Zero Pot-Holes”, was flagged off by the Ekpene Obo Village Council Executives, lead by its Chairman, Elder Iboro Friday Robson and other well meaning sons of the community who trooped out en masse for the project.
A statement from the Secretary of the Ekpene Obo Youth Council, Prince Emmanuel Dan Akpe, said the ”Operation Zero Pot-Holes” project is a community based developmental project, initiated and sponsored by the current Village Council Chairman, Elder Robson, aimed at rehabilitating all Pot-Holes along the major James town road in Ekpene Obo.
While addressing the community before the commencement of the work, Elder Robson who is fondly known as Alhaji Tofa, stressed the need to embark on such project in other to create a safe and secured road for commutters and passersby.
He emphasized that, in a quest to address and bring to minimal the spate of road accident – which has been almost a daily ooccurrence along the James Town Route and to safe guard the lives and properties of both commutters and passersby, he resolved to embark on the project.

He stated that the “Operation Zero Pot-Holes” initiative was born out of a place of love for his community and also in fulfillment of his promises to “embark on life transforming and community development projects, which would have tremendous positive and transformational impact on the community”.
Besides, Robson said, “this initiative is to as well complement the efforts of government in community development”.
He echoed the need to commence the project at the “Welcome To Esit Eket” axis of the road, as it is the facade of the community and the need to keep it spick and span.
To put the icing on the cake, he beckoned on all and sundry to support the initiative in all ramifications, as “a bunch of broom would sweep cleaner than a stick”.
A commuter, who gave his name as Timothy Etukudo, commended the initiative by Ekpene Obo youths saying, “this is a good development and it calls for emulation and total support. It is a huge relief for us computers, at least in this axis. I implore youths in other villages to do same”.
Recall that in a similar effort, Ekpene Obo youths led by Barr. Emman Smith had few weeks ago embarked on an environmental sanitation exercise keeping Ekpene Obo village clean.
