Calabar, Nigeria – The Season of Sweetness, as used during the campaign in the 2023 governorship election in Cross River State, has literally turned soar, according to some citizens.
The administration of Governor Bassey Otu, which promised the citizens of the state lots of goodies, has yet to give them anything near sweetness.
There have been a series of complaints here and there regarding the performance of the administration, especially in the area of the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, which recently forced workers to embark on warning strikes.
Some critics argued that the administration is just a baby of one year and counting and that the administration is working tooth and nail to balance the promise made during the campaign and the current economic situation in the nation.
According to the SA on Community Relation to Governor Otu, Pastor Francis Bill Francis, “Sweet Prince Bassey Edet Otu”, is working round the clock to make sure that he fulfils his campaign promises.
“This is obvious in the ongoing infrastructural projects in the state, such as the Bakassi Deep Seaport, Calabar-Obudu railway, 15km North Ukelle Road, and many other projects cut across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
A concerned citizen from the Southern Senatorial District of the state, Mr Austine Ibok, shared his opinion in a Whatsapp platform, CROSSFILM NETWORK, that if the governor continues in this snail-liked development process, he may lose the 2027 elections to the Central.
He, therefore, advised that the governor should tighten his seat belt in order to maintain the seat of power.
Cross Riverians are finding it difficult to survive the economic realities. Even in this yuletide period, it may be very difficult to even cook rice on Christmas day due to the rate at which commodities are skyrocketing, and a call on the Governor to invest in human capital development is not out of place, as it is the key to the growth of any system.
