A Kano State High Court has issued an order restraining the Nigeria Police Force from arresting, inviting, harassing, or detaining the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

The order was granted following a suit filed by the Attorney General of Kano State, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Rimingado himself, as plaintiffs. The defendants in the case include the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 1 Kano, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, ASP Ahmed M. Bello, and Bala Muhammad Inuwa.

Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji delivered the ruling on Monday after reviewing the motion ex parte, along with a six-paragraph affidavit sworn to by Mr. Abubakar Muhammad, a litigation secretary in the law firm of Messrs. A. K. Maude and Co. The affidavit and written address, dated January 27, 2025, were filed by the applicant’s counsel.

The court adjourned the case to February 2, 2025, for the hearing of the motion on notice.

The legal action follows the recent arrest and detention of Rimingado by police operatives on Friday evening. He was detained at the Zone 1 Police Headquarters in Kano, where he was interrogated for hours before being granted conditional bail around 11 p.m.

Despite his release, Rimingado was instructed to report to the force headquarters in Abuja on Monday for further questioning. The court’s order temporarily shields him from further police actions pending the next hearing.
