The Federal High Court, Abuja Division, has ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties for failing to meet constitutional requirements for recognition.
Justice Peter Lifu, in a judgment delivered on Monday, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the affected parties after they failed to secure 25 per cent of the votes in the last general elections, in line with the provisions of the law, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Justice Lifu, who dismissed multiple preliminary objections filed by the defendants, further ordered that INEC should bar the parties from participating in subsequent elections, including the 2027 general polls, for failing to meet the constitutional threshold.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators against the five parties, with INEC named as the first defendant and the Attorney‑General of the Federation (AGF) also joined.
The forum argued that the parties had failed to meet constitutional requirements relating to electoral spread and performance, insisting that none of the defendants effectively countered its claims.
