The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, setting the amount at N10 million with one surety in like sum.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Musa Liman stipulated that the surety must be a responsible individual with landed property valued at no less than the bail sum. The court also required the surety to submit the original documents of the property, a passport photograph, and an affidavit of means.

Additionally, the judge ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the court’s Deputy Registrar. He was given 24 hours to meet the bail conditions or remain in police custody.

Sowore had been arraigned by the police on Wednesday on a 16-count charge, including allegations of cybercrime. Among the charges was the claim that he referred to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as an “illegal IG.”
