Court sentences 46-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping daughter in Calabar

By Frank Ulom

A 46-year-old man identified as Imeh Sunday, has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for incestuous rape.

Converseer reports that Imeh was convicted and sentenced today, 22 April 2026, by the Family Court 2 sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, and presided over Hon. Justice Blessing Egwu.

Justice Egwu imposed the maximum sentence following overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution against the convict.

The conviction was secured by Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), a non-governmental organisation which promotes and protects the fundamental rights of children and indigent women.

“I wish to commend the survivor, her grandparents, the Honourable Attorney-General, Ededem Charles Ani, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua, the Judiciary, as well as the staff and volunteers of BRCI for their commitment and support toward the survivor and her recovery,” James Ibor Esq., Principal Counsel of BRCI stated after the conviction.

Converseer further reports that the BRCI has secured the conviction of four rapists in the past four months in the state.
