C’River APC Chairman urges Tinubu to introduce subsidy as NNPC increases petrol price

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Barr. Alphonsus Eba has urged President Bola Tinubu to introduce subsidy (even if it is a partial subsidy) following the increment of petrol pump price by the NNPC.

CONVERSEER reports that NNPC increased petrol pump prices to between N868 and N940 per litre across the country on Tuesday.

The increment has caused a stir across the country amidst scarcity.

In his open letter to President Tinubu on Tuesday, the Cross River State APC Chairman said the NNPCL has done the unimaginable by increasing the pump price of petrol.

Eba’s open letter read:

“Our dear President Tinubu, I write to salute your tireless efforts in your quest to make life better for Nigerians and to humbly appeal to you to call NNPCL to order before we incur the wrath of Nigerians.

I have been at the forefront of defending your Renewed Hope reforms, and I have prayed and worked so hard for it to come to fruition. Sadly, just when the long-anticipated Dangote Refinery commenced production today 3rd September 2024, NNPCL has done the unimaginable by increasing the pump price of fuel and the cries of all Nigerians including your genuine supporters is very loud and maybe louder in the days and months to come if nothing is done about it.

Your Excellency, sir, I beg you in the name of God to do everything humanly possible to reverse this sad increment or, at best, introduce partial subsidy to ameliorate this painful situation, which is at the substratum of both Social security and Food security to avoid any untold crisis that this may precipitate.

As we meet for our NEC on the 12th of September 2024, I will reiterate this appeal with the best of intentions to save our party’s soul from premature political death.

Your Excellency sir, I think it is time to negotiate with Dangote to fix fuel prices for Nigerians at reasonable subsidised cost.

I am totally against this price increment which is a harbinger that may consume our party’s electoral fortunes in the years to come (God Forbid).

The welfare and happiness of our people are and should be our centrepiece and focus now.

I remain your sincere, trusted, reliable & loyal party man, diehard supporter and strongest believer in your ability to save Nigeria.”

CONVERSEER further reports that subsidy is the only way the government can reach out to the people with a crumb of the National cake.
