Reading his citation, the Clerk of the Assembly, Barr. Catherine Ubi, stated that the Late Hon. Egbe represented Obubra II State Constituency during the Second Republic in 1983 under the platform of the National Party of Nigeria.

According to Ubi, the Late Hon. J. A. Egbe, an eloquent legislator, distinguished himself through dedicated and impactful legislative service.

The Clerk further disclosed that the deceased served as Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Vice Chairman of the Agric Committee, adding that his commitment to effective representation and service delivery added value to governance and legislative processes in the state.

In their tributes, a former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Itaya Asuquo Nyong, the current Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, and several past and present legislators eulogised the deceased describing him as a father, a great achiever who left behind enduring legacies.

The Lawmakers noted that the late Hon. Jacob Abeng Egbe left behind a capable son in the person of Hon. Abeng Egbe Abeng, the current Member representing Obubra II State Constituency, who incidentally now serves as the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Vice Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture.

In his tribute, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, expressed joy that Late Hon J. A. Egbe left behind great children, including Honm Abeng Egbe Abeng (Obubra 2). He described the Late legislator as a great man and a friend.

Ayambem further charged the bereaved family to embrace peace while praying for the peaceful repose of the Late Legislator.

The Valedictory Service featured, amongst other things, a minute silence in honour of the deceased, filing past the deceased’s casket, and tributes amongst other things.

According to family sources, the Late Hon. Jonah Abeng Egbe a.k.a JABENGO will be buried on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, in his home town in Ababene, Obubra LGA after a funeral and memorial service by the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria.
