C’River Works Commissioner Responds to N70m, Imposition Allegations

The Cross River State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Pius Ankpo Edet, has responded to the allegations of using N70 million to bribe to make his mother-in-law the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for Akamkpa Local Government Area for the forthcoming Local Government Election.

In a telephone call with Converseer on Wednesday, 16th October, Edet said: “So, what do you want to hear from me?”

When our Correspondent told him it was to set the records straight regarding the allegations labelled against him which were reported by the media, including Converseer on Monday, 14th October, the Commissioner said, “To set the record straight after…to you as a court of competent jurisdiction to pass a judgement after publishing what…without verifying the authenticity of the thing…you published it.”

Continuing, without telling his side of the story, Edet said, “After you’ve tarnished my image, you’re now calling me to find out what is my own part of the story. Why are you calling now to find out after you’ve published the story?”

In a bit for our Correspondent to respond, Edet said: “I am asking you a question, what are you publishing? Why did you call me to find out the information? What information are you looking for from me?

“You don’t need to worry yourself; we will pass the message to you in our own way,” he concluded amidst the explanations from our Correspondent.

In the earlier report as stated in the first paragraph of this report, Converseer only reported the news as an allegation with efforts to get comments from the Commissioner proving abortive. Even after connecting for the first time, Edet bounced our Correspondent’s call, only to call back the following day.
