…postpones confirmation of Asu due to lateness

Six (6) more commissioner nominees have been screened and confirmed by the Cross River State House of Assembly.

CONVERSEER reports that the newly confirmed 6 nominees are Mr Johnson Andiambey Ebokpo (jr), Dr Helen Agan Isamoh, Hon. Erasmus Ekpang, Hon. Effiom Ekaha, Hon. Kingsley Namgbe Egumi and Capt. Inah Eno Utum.

However, one person, Mr Charles Asu was not screened due to his late arrival to the Chambers. Because of that, his confirmation was postponed by the House to next week.

The screening and confirmation took place on Thursday (August 10) at the House of Assembly Complex, Calabar.

Speaking, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem said the list of 6 nominees was transmitted to the Assembly the previous day.

Ayambem further said that the House in its commitment to ensuring that the Government of Senator Prince Otu takes off properly, decided to screen the nominees during plenary to save time.

The House subsequently dissolved into the Committee of the whole where the nominees were screened before their subsequent confirmation.

The Lawmakers also interacted with the nominees in a question and answer session as well as scrutinised their credentials before declaring them fit for appointment as members of the State Executive  Council.

CONVERSEER earlier reported that Governor Otu, Wednesday (August 9), sent a second list aside the first one, for confirmation, which is in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
