Cross River Chief Judge to Embark on Statewide Correctional Centres Tour

His Lordship, Hon. Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme, Chief Judge of Cross River State

Calabar, Nigeria – The Chief Judge of Cross River State, Hon. Justice Akon B. Ikpeme, has announced a statewide tour of all correctional centres across the state.

This initiative, scheduled to commence on Monday, 25th November 2024, is in line with her constitutional mandate under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

According to a press release signed by Iquo Bassey Ekanem, Esq., Chief Registrar, Cross River State Judiciary, on November 20, the tour will follow this itinerary:

  1. Calabar Correctional Centre – Monday, 25th November 2024
  2. Ikom Correctional Centre – Wednesday, 27th November 2024
  3. Ogoja Correctional Centre – Wednesday, 27th November 2024
  4. Obudu Correctional Centre – Wednesday, 27th November 2024
  5. Obubra Correctional Centre – Thursday, 28th November 2024
  6. Adim Correctional Centre – Thursday, 28th November 2024

Notably, inmates from the Ogoja and Obudu Correctional Centres will be transferred to the Ikom Correctional Centre for their cases to be considered on Wednesday, 27th November 2024.

Relevant inmate particulars and case details are expected to accompany them for review.

This initiative demonstrates the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring fairness and justice for inmates across the state.
