Cross River enforces ban on keke napep (tricycles), commercial motorcycles

The Government of Cross River State has enforced a ban on tricycles (keke napep) and commercial motorcycles around Calabar metropolis.

This was disclosed in a public service announcement with reference number: SSG/SSO/430/S.I/VOL.II/445, signed by Maj. Gen. Okoi Ubi Obono, State Security Adviser, on Tuesday, 2nd July 2024.

Accordingly, operators are advised to adhere to the directives and avoid certain routes listed below.

The public announcement said violators of the directives would be made to face the law and their tricycles or motorcycles confiscated.

The statement read, “In an effort to sustain the peace currently enjoyed in the state and in order to ensure maximum security of lives and properties, the general public is hereby reminded that the ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles on major routes within the state capital is still in force.

“Operators are advised to strictly obey Government directives by avoiding restricted routes and limiting themselves to designated areas.

“For the avoidance of doubt, commercial motorcycles and tricycles are not expected along the following routes:

1. M/M Highway
2. Marian Road
3. IBB Way
4. Etta Agbor Road
5. Atimbo
6. Diamond
7. Mary Slessor
8. 8 Miles up to Tinapa Junction
9. Marian Hill
10. Moore – Road
11. Barracks Road
12. MCC Road
13. Akai Efa
14. Parliamentary Road up to extension
15. Ikot Ishie / Ikot Ansa
16. Federal and State Housing Estates

“Please note that tricycles or motorcycles seen violating this directive will be apprehended and offenders made to face the full wrath of the law.”
