The Cross River State Government has extended the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on the disputed boundary between Idomi and Ugep communities in Yakurr Local Government Area by an additional one week, effective Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
According to a statement by Erasmus Ekpang, PhD, Commissioner for Information, on Wednesday, the extension is aimed at sustaining peace and preventing a further breakdown of law and order as the Government and traditional institutions intensify mediation efforts.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew strictly between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily.
Residents are urged to comply fully and to report any suspicious activities to help maintain calm across the affected communities.
Defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“As directed earlier, the Executive Chairman and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr LGA, along with Clan Heads and key stakeholders from both communities, are further urged to collaborate closely with security agencies, champion the message of peace, and remind residents of the importance of maintaining calm and order,” part of the statement.
The Government reaffirms its commitment to resolving the land dispute fairly and peacefully, with the overall development and collective interest of the State as its foremost priority.
