Dan Obo Awarded Ears of Betem

BIASE – The Special Adviser to Governor Bassey Otu on Youths Mobilisation, His Youthfulness Onun Dan Obo, has been awarded the Chieftaincy Title of Iyong Deh Ebeteng, meaning, Ears of Betem.

Obo was given the title by the Betem Traditional Rulers Council (BTRC) on Saturday, January 18, during the 2025 Betem Liberation Day, held at the PCN Primary School, Betem in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Awarding the Chieftaincy title to Obo, HRH Obort Engr. Onda I. Onda, Enzenghe One of Betem Kingdom and Clan Head of Ehom/Betem Clan, commended the awardee for his contribution to the youths of Biase and Cross River State as a whole.

HRH Onda said Chief is one of the outstanding players in grassroots development in the community.

“Having demonstrated integrity in character and conduct, to the development of the Betem Community, and having represented the Community creditably, Dan Obo is hereby certified as the Iyong Deh Ebeteng of the Betem Traditional Rulers Council with all the rights and privileges pertaining thereto.

“He shall henceforth be known, called and addressed as Chief Dan Obo, in accordance with the custom and tradition of Betem Community under our hand this Saturday 18th January 2025,” HRH Onda stated.

Remarking after receiving the Chieftaincy title, Chief Obo thanked the people of Betem for making him one of their own.

He said, “From henceforth, I am part of this community and it will remain so.”

Earlier, Obo, who was also the Chairman of the occasion, noted that the Governor has the people of Betem in mind. “His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu understands what this day means to the people of Betem and that’s why he sent me here to celebrate with you, and if the Governor is with you, the entire state is with you.

“I understand that Betem don’t celebrate any other celebration, including Christmas aside Betem Day, so, this significance is the reason we are here to support you and tell you that you’re not alone, and the Governor is ensuring you that from now on, he is with you,” he said.

Converseer reports that Chief Obo was escorted by members of De-Caucus, a group of young people with great potentials, in which he is the Convener.
