Popular Nigerian television personality and actor, Denrele Edun, has revealed the inspiration behind his symbolic decision to marry himself as part of activities marking his 45th birthday.

The entertainer, whose full name is Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, stirred conversations across social media after posting a video on June 13 announcing his unusual self-union, a move that quickly attracted reactions from fans and followers.

Addressing the reason for the gesture in a message shared via his Instagram Story on Tuesday, Denrele said the act was not about convention but about acknowledging a lifetime of personal growth, endurance and self-discovery.

Looking back on four and a half decades of experiences, challenges and victories, he said the celebration was dedicated to the one constant presence throughout his life’s journey—himself.

“Till death didn’t do us part. So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he said.

The media star explained that the symbolic marriage represented an embrace of every phase of his life and every version of himself that contributed to the person he has become today.

“I am the bride and the groom. And I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME!” he declared.

Known for his bold fashion choices, vibrant personality and unconventional approach to life and entertainment, Denrele rounded off the announcement with a signature flourish, describing himself as:

“The Bride. The Groom. The Happily Ever After.”

The announcement generated widespread discussion online, with many admirers praising the message as a powerful expression of self-worth, resilience, healing and personal acceptance. For many of his supporters, the symbolic ceremony was less about marriage and more about celebrating a life lived unapologetically and the journey of learning to love oneself through every season.
