Don’t Condone Abuse, Gender-Based Violence, EARCOM Boss Tasks Mothers

Don’t Condone Abuse, Gender-Based Violence, EARCOM Boss Tasks Mothers

Mothers have been charged not to condone any form of abuse or gender-based violence while performing their role of motherhood.

The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM,  Dr Dorothy Thompson said such role by mothers is “sacred and supreme vocation”.

In a statement from her Media Unit marking Mothers Day 2025, Dr Thompson advised mothers to take seriously their God-given role by paying serious attention to taking care of their children and husbands with specific attention to preventing cases of abuse, molestation or gender-based violence.

The EARCOM boss further added that mother’s by doing so will be actively contributing to nation-building and raising socially responsible citizens who will not subscribe to vices and truancy.

Dr Thompson further lauded Governor Umo Eno for his unrelenting effort at women’s empowerment and specifically commended the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs Helen Eno-Obareki for her unwavering commitment towards safeguarding the rights of Akwa Ibom Women and promoting their welfare through the Golden Initiative For All, GIFA.

Dr Thompson also urged children and the men folk to “pray for and respect their mothers” recognising the enormous sacrifices they make to ensure they play their sacred and very challenging role of motherhood while being supportive given the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
