With the third window of the FIBA Africa World Cup qualifiers in sight, Nigeria’s D’Tigers have been placed 12th in the latest FIBA African Power Rankings, which raises concerns over the team’s chances of advancing to the next stage.
The ranking may not be unconnected with D’Tigers’ disappointing performance during the opening window of the qualifiers, where Nigeria managed just one win from three games to place on a 1-2 record.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBF) in a bid to revive the team’s fortunes, named former NBA head coach and two-time NBA champion David Fizdale in May to lead the technical crew.
The appointment of Fizdale is expected to add the much-needed boost as the team prepares for the decisive fixtures.
With barely a few days before the next round of qualifiers begin, not much is being said regarding the preparation of the D’Tigers which has left fans agitated about their readiness.
Nigeria will face Tunisia on July 2, before taking on Guinea and Rwanda on July the 3rd and 5th respectively in the third window of the FIBA Africa World Cup qualifiers.
