By Anietie Akpan

The Chairman of the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM, Dr Dorothy Thompson has called for intentional action by relevant stakeholders to ensure the empowerment, education and inclusion of women in political structures for the betterment of the society.

Dr Thompson who made the call in a press release from her media unit to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration also lauded the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for the deliberate empowerment of women and including the women in political structures from the local government areas to his cabinet and the civil service.

She also commended the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Helen Eno-Obareki for what she observed as the efficiency and competence she has demonstrated in discharging the enormous responsibilities of her office and the achievements she has recorded so far.

Dr Thompson described the theme of this year, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” as apt and reiterated the resolve of EARCOM to reinforce her campaigns to end all forms of gender-based violence and the prosecution of all sexual offenders, while advocating for the empowerment of women through education and political inclusion.

The EARCOM boss congratulated Mrs Helen Eno-Obareki and all Akwa Ibom women on the occasion of the 2025 IWD celebration and sued for support for the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady to enable her to champion the affairs of women, the girl-child, and vulnerable persons who add value to the State.
