Engr. Osborn Nweze Umahi has emerged chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, in a development supporters have described as a major milestone for youth participation in grassroots politics.
Umahi, aged 28, contested under the All Progressives Congress and entered the election with promises of development, economic expansion and more efficient local administration.
Following his emergence, he announced that he would not accept salaries or allowances while serving as chairman.
According to Umahi, his decision reflects his determination to serve the people and channel attention toward the development needs of the council.
The chairman-elect is expected to prioritise infrastructure, youth empowerment, job creation and improved community services.
Umahi is the son of former Ebonyi governor and Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.
Although his family background has contributed to public interest in his political career, the younger Umahi has repeatedly highlighted his professional experience in engineering and business as part of the foundation for his leadership approach.
The coming months will provide the first test of his ability to translate those ideas into results.
